Sep 23, 2014 6:58:15 AM Felix Romer Its an invitational race with 32 drivers. Drivers break up into 4 heats of 8 drivers. 8 rounds of heads-up/finals racing. Every drivers compete with each other from all starting positions. Final rankinglist is counted from finishing positions as in normal final
Oct 9, 2014 8:12:48 AM Felix Romer I divided drivers to 8 groups. Then i used these groups to make heat's for each round.
In 1.round drivers are just divided on from top to bottom into four heats.
2. round and then on i use these 8 groups:
A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H
A-C, B-D, E-G, F-H
A-G, B-F, C-E, D-H
A-F, B-G, C-H, D-E
A-E, C-F, D-G, B-H
A-H, B-E, C-G, D-F
A-D, B-C, E-H, F-G

Its like A-B-C style in Karting when track limit is reached. I it will scale up and down by number of pilot per heat and number of rounds.
Oct 21, 2014 5:21:53 PM Felix Romer Q: You have now 32 pilots which you have arranged into 4 groups. Is it now that "simple" that you can easily divide the number of driver by the number of groups to get the number of rounds which have to be driven (in your case 8 -> it is also equal to the number of pilots per group)?

A: Last year we had 40 drivers, 4 groups and 8 rounds but track was too grounded and it didn't work well. This year we chosen 32 pilots to get more equal skilled drivers and get format working better. I didn't even notice formula: drivers/Groups=Rounds but i would use Drivers / Rounds = Groups and round it down. Because minium round time is 1hour(in Finland) so it's easier to plan the event if you know how many rounds its going to be.
Oct 21, 2014 5:21:53 PM Felix Romer Q: Is it correct, that the reedy mode will just work, if all groups are containing the same numer of pilot? Let's say we want to have 5 groups with 7 pilots, then we need to have exactly 35 pilots. In this case also 7 rounds are needed - yes? Other example, let's say 3 groups with 8 pilots. In this case we need 24 pilots and also 8 rounds?

A: Best case is that all heats have equal number of drivers(needs certain number of drivers) but it will work if some heat(s) is have less drivers. I think its would be best that user can define number of rounds. Just use Drivers / Groups = drivers per heat and round up to get how many drivers in groups and some of then have less.
Oct 21, 2014 5:21:53 PM Felix Romer Q: If until now everything is correct - is there kind of generic logic howto fillup this matrix automatically? Or can this be done again with the way you have done this by dividing the pilots into groups (A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H)? If yes, I guess here it will be again that this necessary number of groups which you are the pilots dividing into must be equal to the number of rounds? Correct?

A: I would dived drivers in groups A,B,C... yes number of rounds is number of reseeding groups.
Oct 21, 2014 5:21:53 PM Felix Romer Q: Is there a similar logic for the start position field?

A: I just sorted drivers by driver number in groups and for frist round start order is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and for 2. round 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1 3. starts from 3 and so on. It's not perfect but works quite well. Some drivers gets less starting points than other i used this because it's just simple to do in excel. If you can make something better it would be awsome.
Oct 23, 2014 3:38:21 PM Felix Romer I think same A-B-C table would work with: 24drivers 3 heats 8 rounds, 32 drivers 4 heats 8 rounds, 40 drivers 5 heats 8 rounds and 48 drivers 6 heats 8 rounds. I need think this more to find the logic that can make it generic/dynamic to all number of participants. I get back to you if i come with something.
